Our Story
IT STARTED WITH A BAD BAG.
We were out in the Australian Alps on a 27km hiking trail. Shoulders already done from a pack that had been fighting us since the car park. We started talking about why there was no good bag for this.
Not just for the hike. For everything.
It occurred to us then: a bag is an extension of who you are. You wouldn't just throw any bag on your back, the same way you wouldn't walk out with just any haircut. It has to be right. And for too long, "right" meant choosing between a bag that worked and a bag that felt like you.
WE TALKED ABOUT IT FOR A WHILE, the way you do.
We weren't product designers. But we kept running into the same thing: bags that looked great but gave out quickly, bags built for adventure that embarrassed you in an office, bags marketed as "everyday" that couldn't survive one.
Eventually we stopped talking and did something about it.
WE CHOSE THE NAME EMMÈTON because of what it means.
Translated from the French, it means "born from strength and significance." The things you carry should hold up through everything you put them through.
We're based in Sydney. We're husband and wife. And emmèton is a family business, which means every product decision is personal. Knowing it's personal for our customers too is what keeps us honest.
We started by finding the right products, partnering with makers who built things properly, with recycled and repurposed materials wherever possible. If we wouldn't carry it ourselves, it didn't make the range.
What started as one hiking backpack idea has grown into a carry system for every part of modern life: Urban, Travel, Active, Accessories. And there's more coming.
We're Chevonne and Chris. Thanks for being here.
